Your Ultimate Spring Home Maintenance Checklist

Outdoor Tasks, Home:

  • Inspect house foundation
  • Look for signs of termites
  • Inspect exterior vents
  • Turn on exterior water supply
  • Remove storm windows/re-install screens
  • Inspect screen doors
  • Inspect window caulking
  • Wash windows
  • Reseal exterior woodwork
  • Inspect eaves troughs and downspouts
  • Inspect exterior home light bulbs. Replace burnt out bulbs
  • Clean gutters and downspouts
  • Turn on water to outside taps and downspouts
  • Inspect exterior paint
  • Inspect roof/shingles
  • Inspect crawlspaces with access from outside
  • Inspect air conditioner for obvious signs of disrepair
  • Inspect decks and repair/refinish

 Outdoor Task, Yard:

  • Inspect, power wash, seal driveway and walkways
  • Inspect sprinkler systems/irrigation systems
  • Remove standing pools of water to prevent mosquitos
  • Wash and deodorize trash cans and recycling bins
  • Mulch/fertilize gardens
  • Inspect driveway/garden lights. Replace burnt out bulbs
  • Put out bird feeders

Indoor Tasks:

  • Clean and organize garage
  • Inspect basement, attic and crawlspaces
  • Inspect and clean dryer vent
  • Inspect and clean fireplace
  • Inspect and clean water heater
  • Inspect and clean furnace filter/HRV
  • Test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors
  • Replace batteries for smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, clocks, etc.
  • Inspect bathroom exhaust fans
  • Inspect indoor light bulbs. Replace burnt out bulbs
  • Inspect bathroom/kitchen caulking
  • Inspect and clean kitchen exhaust fan, hood and filter
  • Pull refrigerator and oven out from the wall. Remove dirt/build up and inspect and clean refrigerator coils
  • Clean humidifier
  • Inspect windows/caulking
  • Adjust thermostat programming to reflect change in weather
  • Send winter coats to dry cleaners
  • Pack away winter wardrobe, bring out spring summer wardrobe
  • Review home insurance policy
