Real Estate Success How To Tips

Have you ever set a goal, got really exciting and motivated, and then — for whatever reason — failed to take action on that objective?

Please don’t feel embarrassed. Even the most successful professionals, from Walt Disney to Steve Jobs, have had this experience. In fact, the toughest part of achieving a goal isn’t crossing the finish line but getting the race started in the first place.

Goals fade fast if you don’t take action, especially at the beginning.

So, how do you make sure your real estate marketing goals don’t languish on the page or screen you wrote them on? Here are some practical strategies for jump-starting your goals and taking real action towards achieving them.

  1. Decide exactly what you want to accomplish.

It’s almost impossible to achieve fuzzy goals. For example, if you say, “My goal is to get more real estate referrals this year,” how are you going to know when you’ve achieved that? When you get one new referral? Five? Twenty?

Social scientists say the more specific your goal, the more likely you are to achieve it. According to an article in PositivePsychology.com, the research shows that, “When a goal is vague, it has limited motivational value.” The article recommends setting “clear goals” that “can be measured.”

So, when setting your real estate marketing goals, be specific. For example, “My goal is to get 12 new real estate referrals from past clients this year.”

  1. Share your goals with others who can support you.

Yes, you can achieve a goal without getting any help or support from others. But it’s difficult.

If you want to reach your real estate marketing goals, don’t go it alone. Get others by your side. That could be as simple as asking a friend or trusted colleague to be an accountability partner, someone you check in with once or twice a month.

Support could also come from your broker’s team, an assistant, or even a vendor. In fact, as part of your Morris real estate marketing system, you have access to a real estate marketing “hotline”. Just call the 800 number and you can have a full discussion about strategies and plans with a real estate marketing expert.

  1. Put the right systems in place.

There’s no doubt about it. Putting the right systems in place will significantly increase your chances of reaching your goals.

For example, say your goal is to establish yourself in a geographic farm and start seeing an average of two leads per month by the end of the year. To achieve this, you can send monthly direct mail newsletters, begin knocking on doors in that area, and send a holiday card annually. This proven geographic farming system is designed to establish you quickly in that area and make you top-of-mind among those homeowners as the go-to agent. That will help you reach your goal faster and with more certainty.

  1. Be consistent.

Inspirational movies are made about people making extraordinary against-all-odds efforts to achieve a dream or goal. But in the real world, most goals are reached simply by taking consistent action. Whether it is consistent communication with past clients for maximum referrals or, as stated above, working a geographic farm, consistently sending those residents a value-packed real estate newsletter each month, consistency is the key.

Takeaway: If you have ambitious real estate marketing goals, the best way to achieve them is to take action early in the game. Try these four tips to get a jump-start. Use the right systems. Create momentum. Go for it!
